Built for Coverage Where It’s Needed

A legionnaires hat stands out for one simple reason: that added flap at the back that covers your neck where the sun tends to hit hardest. It shades you throughout the day, with a design that still feels light and easy to wear.

These details make these hats a practical option outdoors:

  • Extended neck flap helps protect the back of your neck
  • Lightweight, breathable fabrics keep airflow moving
  • Moisture-wicking materials help manage sweat in warm weather
  • Detachable neck flap hat options give you flexibility
  • Chin straps help keep your hat secure

Materials are UPF 50+ rated and made to handle heat, with fabrics that hold their shape, dry quickly and stay comfortable to wear. That level of protection also aligns with workplace sun safety standards, with more detail covered in our guide to UPF testing.

Where a Legionnaire Cap Works Best

When you’re out for the long haul, coverage matters. A legionnaires hat is a practical pick for high-UV conditions, with coverage that lines up with Australian sun safety guidance. Here’s where these hats get the most use:

  • On work sites, a work hat with neck flap helps manage sun exposure
  • Bushwalking, where added neck coverage helps when shade is limited
  • Out on the water, a fishing hat with neck protection suits long hours in the sun
  • In the garden, where extra coverage helps during longer sessions outside
  • At school and sports events, a kid's legionnaire hat helps cover extended time outdoors

You’ll find these styles in the men’s outdoor gear range, along with options in the kids' collection and styles for women, making it easy to pick something for the whole family.

Why Get Legionnaires Hats from OZ Smart?

Time outside here often means dealing with strong UV, so having gear that’s properly tested is worth it. Here’s what you can expect:

  • UPF 50+ tested fabrics that block over 98% of UV rays
  • Lightweight, breathable builds that stay comfortable through the day
  • Adjustable features that help keep your hat in place
  • Easy returns if the fit is not quite right
  • Fast dispatch from Sydney and Melbourne

OZ Smart keeps sun protection simple with legionnaires hat options that work for daily use and job sites. You’ll also find hats for big heads, along with sun hats and wide brim hats. Accessories are available too, including sun protection umbrellas, so it’s easy to cover what you need for the whole family.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a legionnaire hat and a regular sun hat?

A legionnaire hat has a flap at the back that covers your neck and often your ears, while a regular sun hat relies solely on a brim for shade. That flap gives more direct protection to areas that tend to get missed, particularly the back of the neck, during long hours outside.

Are OZ Smart neck flap hats suitable for outdoor work?

Absolutely. They’re a practical choice for outdoor work because they cover the back of your neck and stay in place during movement. This added coverage aligns with recommendations for high UV conditions, especially on job sites.

Can the neck flap be removed or folded away?

Many styles include a removable or fold-away flap, so you can adjust the coverage as needed. It gives you a bit more flexibility across different conditions.

Do these hats come in kids’ sizes?

They do, and they’re commonly used for school, sports and outdoor play since they help protect areas children often miss with sunscreen. Our kids' legionnaire hats are great for spending time outside.

Are neck flap hats UPF 50+ rated for sun protection?

Yes, they are. OZ Smart neck flap hats use UPF 50+ rated materials that block over 98% of UV rays, giving you reliable protection when you’re out for extended periods.
